How to do Overhead Reach
SeatedHoldBeginner
Overhead Reach is a seated stretch for your spine, neck and shoulders.
Step by step
- 1Sit up straight with your arms at your sides.
- 2Sweep your arms out and up over your head, interlacing your fingers with palms facing up.
- 3Reach towards the ceiling, straightening your elbows and relaxing your shoulders.
What you should feel
Let your shoulders soften, even as you reach.
Form tips
- Lengthen your spine and create space between your vertebrae.
- Feel the length all the way up your sides.
- Breathe into the space between your ribs.
Make it easier
If your shoulders are tight, keep your hands apart instead.
Coming out of it
On your next exhale… release your hands… and let your arms float down.
Muscles it works
Move slowly and stop if anything hurts. This is general guidance, not medical advice; check with a professional if you're injured or recovering.
