How to do Wall Handstand
StandingHoldBeginner
Wall Handstand is a standing stretch for your upper back, shoulders and chest.
Step by step
- 1Stand facing a wall.
- 2Step forward with one foot.
- 3Bend to place your hands on the floor, half an arm's length from the wall.
- 4Kick your back leg up, followed by the other leg, swinging your body upward.
- 5Your feet should rest against the wall.
- 6Keep your arms straight and body aligned.
- 7Hold the position.
What you should feel
Press steadily through your hands.
Form tips
- Perform the movement smoothly and continuously. Practice the kick-up motion without going fully up until comfortable.
- Keep your arms straight… your neck soft.
- Breathe slowly… calm and steady.
Make it easier
Only try this if you've practiced it before. Downward dog is a lovely alternative.
Coming out of it
Step one foot down… then the other… and rest a moment before standing.
Muscles it works
Move slowly and stop if anything hurts. This is general guidance, not medical advice; check with a professional if you're injured or recovering.
