How to do Side Leg Raise
StandingHoldBoth sidesBeginner
Side Leg Raise is a standing stretch for your abdomen, glutes and lower back. Do it on one side, then switch.
Step by step
- 1Stand tall with your hands on your hips.
- 2Hold onto a wall or chair if you'd like some balance.
- 3Shift your weight into your left foot, and lift your right leg out to the side.
What you should feel
Stay tall through your standing leg.
Form tips
- Toes point forward, not up. Don't lean, lift from the hip. Feel the outer right hip working.
- Keep your hips level… and soft.
- Feel the side of your right hip working.
Make it easier
Keep your right toes resting on the floor if balance feels tricky.
Coming out of it
Slowly lower your leg… and stand evenly on both feet.
Muscles it works
Move slowly and stop if anything hurts. This is general guidance, not medical advice; check with a professional if you're injured or recovering.
