How to do Wide Leg Side Bend
StandingHoldBoth sidesIntermediate
Wide Leg Side Bend is a standing stretch for your spine, obliques and lower back. Do it on one side, then switch.
Step by step
- 1Stand with your feet wider than shoulder-width apart.
- 2Keep your arms at your sides.
- 3Reach one arm overhead and place the opposite hand on your thigh.
- 4Gently bend your torso to the side, extending your arm overhead.
What you should feel
Let your right hand slide down only as far as is easy.
Form tips
- Keep your spine long. Engage your core for lower back support. Breathe deeply and steadily.
- Feel the long stretch down your left side.
- Keep your feet heavy on the floor.
Make it easier
If your shoulder is tight, rest your left hand on your hip instead.
Coming out of it
On your next breath in… rise up to center… and lower your arm.
Muscles it works
Move slowly and stop if anything hurts. This is general guidance, not medical advice; check with a professional if you're injured or recovering.
