How to do Eagle Arm

SeatedHoldBoth sidesBeginner

Eagle Arm is a seated stretch for your triceps, upper back and shoulders. Do it on one side, then switch.

Step by step

  1. 1Stand or sit up straight.
  2. 2Extend your arms in front at shoulder height.
  3. 3Cross one arm over the other at the elbows.
  4. 4Bend your arms to make your forearms perpendicular to the floor.
  5. 5Wrap your forearms around each other and bring your palms together.

What you should feel

Feel the space opening between your shoulder blades.

Form tips

  • Relax your shoulders. Aim to create space between your shoulder blades.
  • Let your elbows lift a little… gently.
  • Breathe into your upper back.

Make it easier

If your palms don't meet, rest the backs of your hands together.

Coming out of it

Gently unwind your arms… and let them float down.

Muscles it works

Move slowly and stop if anything hurts. This is general guidance, not medical advice; check with a professional if you're injured or recovering.

Do Eagle Arm with a coach

In BendEase, a voice coach talks you into Eagle Arm, cues you through the hold and tells you when to switch sides, while the guided video shows you exactly how. It's built into routines for your triceps and upper back.
