How to do Overhead Tricep

SeatedHoldBoth sidesAdvanced

Overhead Tricep is a seated stretch for your triceps, upper back and obliques. Do it on one side, then switch.

Step by step

  1. 1Sit or stand with your back straight and arms at your sides.
  2. 2Raise one arm overhead and bend your elbow, bringing your hand toward the opposite shoulder blade.
  3. 3Use your opposite hand to gently press your elbow down toward the middle of your back.
  4. 4Hold the stretch, then switch arms.

What you should feel

Let your head stay tall.

Form tips

  • Keep your shoulders relaxed. Avoid arching your back. Breathe deeply throughout the stretch.
  • Feel the back of your left arm slowly open.
  • Breathe into your left side.

Make it easier

If your shoulder is tight, keep your elbow a little more forward.

Coming out of it

Let go of your elbow… and float your arm back down.

Muscles it works

Move slowly and stop if anything hurts. This is general guidance, not medical advice; check with a professional if you're injured or recovering.
